Please help. Vodafone @ Home

Hi,

I have currently got a BT line.
I have cancelled my ADSL broadband provided by Eclipse.

I am due to be moving home at on the 1st June and have decided to go on the Vodafone At Home package for £25 a month.

I am trying to get my broadband activated asap so i don't go without.

The trouble is Vodafone take over your BT line for you. Do i tell BT i am moving and get them to reconnect the line at the new address in my name, then call vodafone on completion day and place my order so they take over the line and provide my broadband. (When you get a line at a new address connected in your name you are locked into a 12 month contract with BT).

Or can i just cancel my BT line at my current address and place my order with vodafone at the new address and let them take care of the line from there end.

The house i am moving to has a BT line and it will be left connected.

Any help anyone can give me would be very appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

    Hi Jonah01

Working for Vodafone, I was able to email the Vodafone At Home team for you, and got the following response.

If we can find out where the customer is moving too, we can run some tests to see if he needs a new line or not. if not we can supply the service in 10 working days which means if he is moving on 1st June then he will be without service for a couple of days.

He doesn't need to contact BT to get a new line we do all that for him so all he would really need would be a MAC at most, if he can get one from the current tenants as we would need to take over the BB service or get the current tenants to cease their BB.

By the looks of things, you'd just need to give Vodafone At Home a ring to make sure the line at your new address is compatible, and then just supply the MAC code.

If you have any problems, or want any further information, if you go to the Contact Us section of the Vodafone Website, the select email, you will be able to send us a message. If you include FIT135 anuywhere in the body of the text, it will be picked up by a team who monitor the public fourms.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. Its really appreciated.

If i place an order now could it interrupt the service for the people who are living there at the moment. e.g. their phone could stop working.

They do not have broadband there so i won't need a MAC code.

    Cheers

    Hi Paul

The only problem I see, would be you'd end up paying for some of their usage, as when the switch over took place, the account would be in your name.

Hi Sorry to bother you again.

I have tried to order Vodafone At Home for the new address.

The new address is definately now vacant and has a BT line connected.

We move in this friday. 1st June.

The problem is the line still has the old occupiers adsl broadband on it which is with Virgin. I spoke to the old occupiers and they have not transferred it because they are moving into a new house that still hasn't got an active BT line so they can't transfer it until it becomes active.

Vodafone won't let me order it unless i have a MAC code. This could take forever to get from the old occupiers because of them not being able to transfer their broadband yet. Also i don't want to keep calling them asking them to sort out a MAC code.

This could leave me without broadband for quite a while. Is there anyway i can place an order for Vodafone at home and get them to cease the broadband on the line because at the end of the day the line will be owned by me on friday.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for your help.

I called BT today and obviously can't remove any marker because i don't own the house yet. Will try friday.

If they haven't cancelled their BT account by the time i move in i assume i still have the right to take off any markers on it even if the BT line isn't in my name?

Is it possible for them to have the BT line still in their name but not own the house, surely not?

Might just ring vodafone on friday and tell them to place my order and remove any markers that are on the line

    Cheers again.

Finally got my Vodafone at home ordered. Activation on the 13th June.

Eventually spoke to someone who knew what they were talking about at vodafone.

They have applied for a new line in my name with a completely new number. Not a new physical line though.

This will get rid of any markers or anything like that.

I keep everyone posted on how it goes.

    Thanks

    Paul
