It is your choice s to what you allow a MW to do.

I do dislike this attitude that a MW has to check you, touch you, give you an internal.
Your body, your choice - you can allow or disallow anything you don't wish to do.
Measuring your stomach length gives an indication but is not a definite science.

Exactly! My MW, whilst armed with her tape measure, told me that my baby was on the small side yet the sonographer at the hospital told me that his measurements are average and nothing to worry about!

Bit medieval isn't it? Measuring someone's stomach with a tape measure to work out the size of a baby. A good number of pregnant women are overweight or obese these days too...pretty sure the measurements are even less accurate if you have a bit of a tummy!

OP - Your midwife sounds like a miserable so and so. There's no way I would have allowed her to call me 'silly'. Very rude. Anyway, at all your other appointments just let them know beforehand that you are very ticklish :)

It is stupid and potentially damaging. I am quite a strong person and quite slim but I spent a week fretting that something was wrong (despite all of his previous growth charts showing average growth).

Ok this is daft, really daft but...

Today I went for my check up and did the usual, lay on the couch so she can feel my tummy, now I am extremely ticklish on my tummy, I tensed up and started laughing...she was not impressed and told me off for being silly.

I honestly can't help it, I laugh whenever anyone touches my stomach, but she did have a point when she said the stomach feeling is an important part of the check up, so I need help/advice on how to stop tensing my muscles and laughing as soon as she puts her hands on me.

I don't want to laugh like a loon every time it's done :o

I really wouldn't worry about it, it's not a big deal. You're ticklish, you can't help that. She must work with different people all day long...we're all a bit different. It sounds like she was either having a bad day or needs to do a bit of work on her bedside manner.
