The midwife was not impressed....

Ok this is daft, really daft but...
Today I went for my check up and did the usual, lay on the couch so she can feel my tummy, now I am extremely ticklish on my tummy, I tensed up and started laughing...she was not impressed and told me off for being silly.
I honestly can't help it, I laugh whenever anyone touches my stomach, but she did have a point when she said the stomach feeling is an important part of the check up, so I need help/advice on how to stop tensing my muscles and laughing as soon as she puts her hands on me.
I don't want to laugh like a loon every time it's done

Forget about worrying over this and look at swapping to a midwife with a sense of humour
. If you are ticklish there is little you can do about it. I bet in no time at all she managed to get all the correct measurements in spite of all your giggles.
Just think you could laugh your way all through labour, the amount of times the midwives touch your bump and check on baby at that time. Better than screaming and crying and giving them a headache
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
Thanks Marisco
I'll look into finding one who knows how to crack a smile

I think your Midwife must have been having a grump. Were her hands cold, sometimes that is tickly.
As the other poster said, don't worry about it, she was having a bad day.
All the best with your impending arrival.

haha I'm glad I'm not the only one, wait till they slap the jelly on before your scan!
Don't let her upset you, just keep well and enjoy your miracle.
best wishes.

Don't worry about it, loads and loads of women laugh and wriggle when they have their tummies touched. Really the midwife should be skilled enough to get the information she needs even with a bit of wriggling about. She should have warm hands and touch quite firmly then it's less ticklish. Don't let her lack of humour worry you though, you really aren't at all unusual.:A

Its not the same but I went for my eye test a couple weeks back and you know where they shine that light in your eyes she was just right in my face..I just burst into giggles...cant even explain it...she really wasnt impressed !!People don't know what they want until you show them.0

If you want to desensitise yourself a bit, get your OH involved with rubbing some stretch mark cream into your bump twice a day. This will soon get you used to having your bump prodded around.Val.0

Thank you
Nothing to do with cold hands, I'm just very ticklish, even my boyfriend can't touch my tummy without me having a fit of giggles

Find out if you are likely to see the same midwife again or if it's pot luck -you could ask to be allocated a different one if you think it was more than a bad day ....or just remind her next time before she starts that you are mega ticklish.
I find wriggling my toes really helps-Yes it sounds daft but it works !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

You have my sympathy. I can't stand my belly button being touched and jump about if anyone goes near it. My 20 week scan was a nightmare as they had to push quite hard to over it because of how baby was lying. My husband helped hold me down...
At 24 weeks the midwife laughted with me as I squirmed and apologised and she's actually popped it into my notes so I don't need to explain.
Mu hubby has been rubbing in cream almost dailly but it hasn't helped yet
