Just found out that we are paying for someone elses water!

we have had our water meter for a year, and after 3 months of trying to get the water company out to see why our bill was so high. they discovered that our meter is hooked up to next doors water supply!!

No i dont think so.The companies chap came out and he said it was the company that was at fault. I shall find out where we stand tomorrow hopefully

Usually what they will do is sort your meter out and take two meter readings over a month. Using this they will have an estimate of how much water you use on a monthly basis. They will then adjust your account based on this usage. If you this is what they are going to do, a month of frugal water use could be very beneficial!
Soif you have been paying a higher amount - you should have a nice credit on your account which you can request back by cheque!
Crossed meters are a common occurance and usually a simple fix so try not to worry
