    I'm reliably informed...
...or not, as the case may be! :o

    Please accept my apologies.

If a Building Society decides NOT to increase their rates after a BOE increase, do they normally announce the fact or just hope that no-one will notice? I think there are several yet to announce. Halifax, Bradford/Bingley, Yorkshire (coincidentally all from the same county!)

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I emailed YBS about rate increases last week and had this response on Monday.

    "Thank you for your e-mail.

Following the recent Bank of England base rate increase the Society is reviewing both its mortgage and savings rates. I can confirm that both mortgage and savings rates will be increased and an announcement will be made shortly."

Have got Internet, Reg and eISA accounts so hoping for the full 0.25 across the board.

Me too and with those same accounts.

    UPDATE:
I rang them this afternoon and one of their customer advisers told me that - changes to mortgage and SAVINGS interest rates will come into affect from Monday 4/6/07 - BUT as yet they [customer advisers] had not been informed what the changes will be.

Rather disappointing that it takes them so long to announce what they're doing when the rate increase was the most widely anticipated one for ages.
Far more disappointing though if they don't pass on the full increase!

But this savings rate change looks like it may still be announced sooner than the last one, since the MPC met on the second Wed/Thur of the month this time.

I seem to remember one of their 'main' accounts was only raised by 0.2% last time (or was it the time before?) - possibly the e-ISA? *

    * EDIT: or was it the Internet Saver (from 5.1% to 5.3%) back in Nov/Dec 2006?

From memory that increase was not in responce to a general rate rise

I think the 'unprovoked' rise was earlier last year. If my memory serves...

    Pre Aug 2006........4.70%
Aug 2006.............4.85% (unprovoked 0.15% increase - possibly aligning with B&B?)
    Aug 2006 (BOE)....5.10% (the full 0.25%)
Nov 2006 (BOE)....5.30% (the 0.2% increase mentioned above)
    Feb 2007 (BOE)....5.55% (the full 0.25%)
    May 2007 (BOE)...??????????
