Otherwise, cut it into pieces, and stick in your landfill bin inside carrier bags. (use angle grinder to cut the rim cords and the tyre will cut easily with a hacksaw.

is it worth the time and the risk of wearing your grindings discs to do this? rubber is also grippy and is dangerous to cut using angle grinder too. just phone nearest used tyre place and give it to them to recycle

Try putting them on freecycle, it's amazing what people will recycle.

I normally take our used tyres to the local Council tip. They have a skip specifically for tyres.

My Dad made some old tyres into flower planters. He did this back in the 70s, but I've found a website that will show you how. http://www.craftylittlegnome.com/2011/08/how-to-make-inside-out-tire-planters.html

Other sites show them planted with vegetables etc.

Ever used an angle grinder? They cut through steel - rubber is no problem whatsoever and barely wear the cutting wheel at all. The only slight problem is the smoke. And as cutting discs are about £1.30 each it's hardly a great expense.

Walsall council allow one tyre per visit (not on the rim though) at the recycling centre, goes in the landfill skip. Check the T&Cs for your recycling centre.

Tyres (unless over 1400 mm diameter - significantly larger than any car tyres) have been banned fom landfills since 2003. So you are probably wrong about what your local waste disposal site is doing; or they are acting unlawfully!

Very hard to turn a modern tyre inside out - older tyres had different sidewall composition and hardness.
