Disposing of unwanted car tyres
I have a couple of spare tyres kicking around in my garage which are taking up room and want to clear out, where do I take unwanted car tyres? The local refuse site will not accept them, they suggested going to a garage whom were looking at charging me £20 per tyre for disposal which is more than the tyres are worth.
Any other suggestions please?

Try your local primary school. Our local one has a couple of tyres in the playground for the kids to play with.0

Good ideas, are you both saying that there is no waste disposal site that will accept them or a place that will take them free of charge?0

It's a stupid thing and the reason so many get fly tipped. If you try a google search for your area you may get lucky and find a tyre recycling company.0

Three options that I've used successfully in the past:
1) Are they absolutely beyond use? - I've successfully freecycled 3 tyres with little more than 2mm tread, one even had a puncture.
2) Try a few more local tyre places - last year I got rid of 2 completely knackered tyres for £3.50 each at a local tyre place.
3) Saw them into quarters and stick them in your wheelie bin well wrapped up, one piece at a time.0 -
tyres are recycled and used tyre places will take them and they sell them back to manufacturers for a fee. Just drop them off to a used tyre place - do call them beforehand though as some may not be willing to take them for whatever reason.0

look for 'tyre recycling' in your area in google.
I found one that takes them for 82p per tyre.
If theres decent even tread on them, stick them on gumtree though. You should get £10+ for each of them easy.0 -

Our local council just says
Do not burn tyres as this causes toxic chemicals to be released. Take tyres to your nearest Recycling Centre
Is Donington near you? Do they still use tyre barriers around the track?0 -
Walsall council allow one tyre per visit (not on the rim though) at the recycling centre, goes in the landfill skip. Check the T&Cs for your recycling centre.
Otherwise, cut it into pieces, and stick in your landfill bin inside carrier bags. (use angle grinder to cut the rim cords and the tyre will cut easily with a hacksaw.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Local karting track, or race track. Some farmers seem to like having them as well.0
