looking for housing help

Hi there, not sure if this is thr right place to post this but was looking for any ones experience on this.

I have a housing association flat for the past 5 years, am out of the way of family and have had a lot of trouble with nuisance neighbours.

to cut a long story short, have been to see the housing association last week but there is only one town i want to move to near family but its in an area where there are no council properties left.
However they are building some new houses which will be ready in 2 months. theres a large waiting list and only about 6 flats

I got a phonecall today from the housing officer who wants to come out to my home tomorrow and said in her words, "now im not calling with an offer but i need to come out and see you at your own house with some forms.'

Does anyone have any experience of this? is this hopeful
I have a friend with the same association who says they visited her with paperwork before making them an offer of a house.

Any advice appreciated

I don't see the harm in you having a visit and it may help you get moved sooner. Go for it.

You may be offered a new home, but it might not be a house. Wait and see.

I have to say, it doesn't sound like they're coming with an offer. How does your LA manage their housing register? Is it via choice based lettings? If so, this visit is most likely to complete the forms that will get you on the register so you can bid. Sorry to say, but once on the register you could be bidding for years.

At least you have a secure, cheap (in comparison with private renting) home.

Thanks for your reply. I don't exactly agree. We are already on GE register to bid

Fair enough. Your OP did not make it clear you are already bidding.

Sounds like it could be a verification check to make sure everything matches up with your application. (Done before a potential offer is made.)

ok so housing officer has been and asked the following.

    *next of kin
    does anyone else live here
how many bedrooms do i need
    how much do i earn
can i pay a months rent upfront if needed
    employment

    things like that
she said i would know at the end of the week if i had been offered one of the new houses but can;t guarantee anything

does that sound positive from experience after questions like that?

  • Are you downsizing as this could help. Spare bedrooms are in demand even bigger one beds.

All your details will be kept on file and matched for a suitable tenant.

It is difficult to say whether you will be offered one of the new flats, but they may know someone who wants your area so this may go in your favour.

Good luck, and keep us updated

I agree, and yes if the application when you registered is accurate and you meet the criteria it's likely you will get an offer
