Changing from Sky to Virgin - advice for a novice please!

I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to all things technical so please be patient with me.
I would like to switch suppliers.
I'm currently with Sky for tv, BT for phone, and O2 for broadband (though they have been bought by Sky so it will be changing soon).
My questions are:
If I sign up to Virgin today, and I phone Sky/BT/O2 and cancel my subscriptions today, would I be liable for any fees from them? I'm outwith the minimum contract terms.
I understand there to be a 30 days cancellation notice for these companies. Would I arrange for Virgin to install 30 days from today? I don't want to be without any of my services.
I went onto Virgin Media's website today and saw they are offering £50 off, however it ends today so time is of the essence on my part.
I have emailed these questions to Sky but they can take up to 72 hours to reply.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I would be arranging for Virgin to install a little earlier than the full thirty days-it means that if you encounter any problems with the installation you'll still have Sky to fall back on.
You only pay what you owe Sky. So, as long as you don't order any pay-per-views in your last month, you'll owe nothing extra other than your final month's subscription.
Otherwise, it's very straightforward, though do realise that Virgin's TV service is missing a fair few channels you may have watched on Sky. Notably, there is no Sky Atlantic or MGM and the number of HD channels is limited on Virgin too.0 -
Make sure you go through a cashback site, top cash back are currently offering £163 cashback for a virgin media bundle

i have recently had virgin installed and cancelled sky but i have sky till june and i have already paid my final bill with them. so it is better to cancel the day of installation of virgin because you have 28 day cancellation if your unhappy.
the only thing i was unhappy with was the person who installed it! make sure if you have it that they go through everything with you, after having sky for quite a while its hard to get used to another service that has things very different!0
