Loud drain on road
Hi guys,
Wasn't sure where to post this but basically there's a loose drain lid right outside my windows. Every time a car comes by, bang!
I've filled in my council's online Form to repair these things but haven't heard back for 3 weeks since.
As I live on the ground floor, needless to say that I haven't slept properly ever since.
Any recommendations?
Cheers,
Z

With loads of potholes around, I'd be surprised if this drain cover was a priority!
I'd chose a quiet time and see if the cover has just become slightly displaced and can be put back correctly.0 -
If you are concerned about it and it is disturbing your sleep then I would
a. report in online again (maybe more than once)
b. if this has no effect then ring the department concerned
c. if this has no effect contact your councillor0 -
We had a similar problem a couple of months ago though it was not right outside the house but enough to be annoying when in the conservatory or garden, reported it online to our local council and had an email back acknowledging the problem.
Took about six weeks before they got round to replacing the whole drain assembly as it had become unseated in the road surface, workmen that did the repair told us they had dozens to replace due to the bad winter weather.0 -
Wow 6 weeks !
Reported a loose manhole / pothole and a street light out last Tuesday to my local council. The manhole was repaired the next day and the streetlight last Friday.
They have also been out and about resurfacing all the frost damage and potholes as well.... thanks East Riding council :TYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
call highways instead of using the online form.
the manhole cover was probably lifted for inspection in the small hours and they fitted it the wrong way round quite common.0 -
I don't know how long my council take as I've never reported banging manhole covers before, but I know they do get fixed after a month or two. (Probably when someone reports it.)0

Cheers guys! I thought I should check to see if there is a company name on the cover and giving them a call if there is?
It wouldn't really be The Highways Agency's issue would it?0 -
Only company name you'll find on the cover will be the people who made the cover. Which could easily be 50 years old. No point in that.0

Called Westminster and they said "It was raised with the relevant utility company yesterday". I then asked which utility company it happened to be and she said they had no way of knowing that. Apparently the council sent a guy to inspect it yesterday, but they have no way of contacting him either!??!
Can there really be that big a disconnect??
In any case, she said it will take "up to 6 weeks" to repair...
Ahh!0
