removal and replacement of a gas fire

Options
Wondered if any advice was to be had on the removal of gas fire? I know this is not exactly a new query but was considering replacing it with a multi fuel burner or maybe just opening up the fireplace again? Will there be a flue liner in situ already from the gas fire that will be suitable for a multifuel burner? No back boiler is present and the fire is the only gas appliance in the house.
