                    Hi,
On Saturday I noticed a letter from Thames Water in my postbox addressed to 'the occupier' - strange I thought, I have an account with them and paid them just a few months ago. Tried to call at weekend but they were closed, so this morning finally got through.
They said someone had cancelled the account just over a week ago. It wasn't me or my wife (no one else occupies our flat). Thames Water re-set up the account and I paid the balance on the old account.
A few questions:
(a) Could this be an attempt at identity fraud? I checked by credit report but can't see anything there, but I guess that it might mean that no one has got round to doing anything fraudulent yet if that's there intension.
(b) Am I losing out because there wouldn't have been a water meter reading? Only the water company has access to the meters in the building. I'm guessing therefore my final bill was estimated rather than accurate. Is there anything I can do about this?
(c) Will the change affect my credit score/profile negatively? If so what should I do to correct it?

It's shown clearly on the bill if the reading is agent, customer or estimated.
You have every right to access your own meter to read it-enforce that right.
It's possible that TW closed your account in error. No free lunch, and no free laptop 0 0

If a new account has been set up, you need to check that your next bill - first on the new account - starts on the same reading as your previous bill finished on. This deals with any errors.(b) Am I losing out because there wouldn't have been a water meter reading? Only the water company has access to the meters in the building. make sure you have access to your meters. Not having access in unacceptable. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0
