Basically I've had 6 periods of absence within the last 12 months with 22.5 days. 3 of them absence was covered with Doctors notes? How can they over rule my doctors note, when my doctor has clearly stated that I was unfit for work?
They are not saying you are fit for work or that you were taking a sickie. They are saying that the business cannot support that level of absence and they have dismissed you because you are not capable of being in work for the required shifts because you have been ill.0 -

I do have a union rep that's backing my case, but here goes
Recent 19/04/2013 was off with laryingitis, doctors note was issued.
9/04/13 - 12/04/13 - flu
19/10/12 - 25/10/13 - had my tooth taken out and it gave me oral thrush - doctors note covered
Left work at 11.00am 10/09/2012 only half a day due to sickness
23/07/12 - 27/07/2012 - gastroenteritis - doctors note covered
09/07/2012 - sickness and diarrhoea
Hope this helps, I hope u can help me!!!
My job is sales and I work on the phone!!
The only help I can offer is to tell you to increase your hygiene! S&D and Gastro in the same month is dreadful. Do you wash your hands? And a week because you had a tooth out? Really?
You need to stop having time off.0 -
a bit mean having a bout of the squirts can easily leave you open for gastroenteritis. the staff were the wife works catch the spewy bug just as easily as the patients.they have over the last 3 years scored 100% in there hand hygiene. a lot of the spewy bugs can be picked up thanks to the sick person not having good hygiene standard not the person catching it.
hence its daft forcing people with the bugs back before they are clear. it leaves them open to further health issues and there is a risk of them spreading it about.
i personally think the boss has been keen on sacking. a decent OH intervention could have helped.0 -

Except that there was a three week gap between the S&D and the Gastro. Really, these 'illnesses' look a lot like skiving. There is nothing concrete that can be evidenced here, it's all wishy washy S&D, flu, a tooth out (really?!?!?!).
The best lesson the OP can learn is to improve hygiene and only take sick leave when absolutely necessary.0 -
And why do we seem to think that a Doctor's note is some kind of shield against anything. All you do is turn up to a Doctor tell him you were sick and he writes a note saying you were sick. Anyone can go to a Doctor and get a sick note saying any old cobblers - take that all you people signed off with stess and depression.0

Hi there,
Thanks Paul for the advice, the bradford scoring system is a rubbish system, this system is for people who do take the Mick and have days here there and everywhere!! I went to the doctors to get myself better not to give me a sick note, it's really hard at our doctors to get sick notes as they want people at work.
As for u diva, if u have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all, didn't ur mother tell you that? I take it you have never been ill, and yes your so perfect, god help u when u are because you won't know what has hit u!!! And yes my hygiene is very good thanks, I wash my hands after all toilet duties and carry wet ones around too. I take it u have never had oral thrush where u cannot eat, drink, talk properly as its to painful! But I really don't have to explain myself to you at all.
Thanks again to who have gave me advice and not sitting behind the computer being a troll!0 -
Just becasue you don't like what people say it doesn't make them a troll. If you think those levels a of sickness are acceptable then you need a wake up call."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

just general advice not aimed at op.
forget alchol gel/ wipes ect when its the winter vomiting bug thats after you. only soap and water will remove it.
OP i would get your gp to do a full health screen. it could be your just run down which leaves you open to infection. maybe take some multi vits and probiotics. now if your doctor was to discover that you had IB then you would be covered by the equalities act. maybe worth investigating.0 -

Its a pretty good system in all but some honest people will get caught in it but then can you think of another system that lays it out there on the table where employers can control the absence as easilyDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

I'm a full time mom to three children and in my family we do have ibs, so when I was off with gastric I was tested for this, luckily it came back ok!!!
