Can 4g tablets get blocked?

Hi guys,

Can a tablet that requires a sim be blocked in the same way that phones can be for non-payment or insurance claims? Just wondering because some companies offer tablets on contract. How safe would buying these things on ebay be in terms of them becoming barred down the line? thanks

The mobile data element can be locked out, but the tablet itself will still function on WiFi or a direct connection.
