Bought Radley fakes

Hi I'm very new to ebaying but have started to buy Radley bags in auction. I now have about 8 but the last one I received set some alarm bells ringing. After doing a bit of research I now believe it to be a fake, along with about 2 of my others. Ihe newest arrival I will return but the others I have had a few weeks.
What is the best way to proceed to get my money back from the older two and should I tell ebay or trading standards or police? I know police sounds a bit harsh but they were selling the items as Genuine Radley and for those who say the police will not get involved we did have a local case where someone was prosecuted for selling fake items.

Can I ask what it is about the bags that makes you think they are fakes?

I have bought Radleys from ebay also, I'm wondering what you have noticed?

You don't ever return fakes. You have to keep them and raise a Paypal/Ebay dispute. If it appears that the seller will dispute then you submit them to the manufacturer for testing at your cost. If they are fakes the manufacturer will destroy them. If they are genuine they are returned to you.

You can also ask your local trading standards for more information.

I've raised disputes before keeping the item and also been refunded the money. Rubbish fake anyway so I ended up destroying it myself in the end.

We if you google Radley fakes you will get a few sites that show you originals and fakes. The ones I have, the dog tags are not correct, one has an eye made of wire and the word Radley is in the wrong position, the lining of one is cheap black material, the dog in the inside of the bags is not the proper "shape" - also if you have a few originals you know the difference, well I believe you do. The finish and zip attachments are of a different quality.

Thank you HappyMJ - I did wonder about the arguments that could go on when bag returned. I will happily put them to Radley if it comes to that as I'm so convinced they are fakes and I'm convinced at least one of the traders knew due to the way the photos have been taken.

Make sure you save all those photos before a dispute is raised. Don't rely on them still being there later.

I wouldnt trust ebay for any brand labels, watch fake britain for examples of nearly anything which is a brand item can be faked these days and they are selling for nearly the full retail prices in most cases to make them look like they are originals. Ebay is rife with fakes, even smaller brands like cath kidston are full of fakes now. Appears anything that sells, will be faked and sold on ebay as original.

Yes Cocobay, its the last time I use e bay - it certainly has stopped this "handbag" obsession I had.
  • I sell both Cath Kidston and Radley bags on ebay, and often field lots of questions from prospective buyers (many of whom are suspicious of the authenticity of the bags). I was in protracted conversation with a buyer in Australia once who was convinced that the strap on a Cath Kidston bag I was selling wasn't the right colour - had to provide her with links to pages on the likes of ASOS and various other department stores to set her mind at rest!

I've seen Chinese sites selling fakes that do look incredibly realistic, and it would be really difficult to tell without feeling the quality of the fabric/leather and looking at the standard of stitching.

When I sell, I usually provide the carrier bag, original tags, any other packaging, and - in the case of Radley - the cleaning/care instructions usually supplied with the bag. In the past have provided receipts too if a buyer really needs convincing. If the bags have been sourced from Cath Kidston or Radley then the tags should still be attached (some other brands remove them upon sale - Orla Kiely and Lulu Guinness do this, which makes it much harder for a seller to prove they are authentic, but CK and Radley are really good for this).

I think the answer is to ask lots of questions - if a seller is genuine then they will do their best to set your mind at rest.

Ebay and Paypal disputes deal differently with fakes, I believe. One asks the buyer to show it is a fake and the other asks the seller to show it is genuine. Someone will be along to say which is which. You want to open the dispute that puts the onus on the seller to prove it is genuine.

martindow - is there a slight error in your post aove - would it be the buyer has to show its a fake rather than the seller? I now have one of the buyers saying it was bought in a department store and as it has a pink bag it cant be a fake - well, I will contact Radley, post it to them and ask their opinion. I hope they take legal action against people who knowingly sell fakes.
