Help I cant stop eating.

I have gained three stone in the last 9 months. I had a painful breakup from Fiancee last July, and and since met a lovely kind caring man. So there no excuses anymore. I just cant stop eating. I get such bad cravings for sweets, chocolate and food in general. I pay for weekly weight watchers meetings and this is the diet plan I want to follow. But I just dont seem to have the discipline to do it. I have such discipline with my money now but cant seem to do it with my weight. I want to feel me again. Any tips? Your success story?

Just don't buy the stuff or have it in the house. Our house has one packet of biscuits a week (for DD), no bread, no sweets, cakes or crisps (well an odd packet for DD). When my son visits he is looking everywhere and can't believe we don't buy it!:rotfl:
  • I am not good at links but I had a thread entitled "why is there no help for binge eating disorder....."

There was a LOT of helpful advice on there!

I have cravings too for some things, but because I rarely have them in the house I don't buy it and when I really do want them I have to walk to the supermarket (10-15 minutes away) to buy them, which usually happens about once a month.

I tend to replace chocolate with Options hot chocolate, it can satisfy my sweet tooth. But one January I gave up everything bad from crisps to chocolate, alcohol to eating out. I found out what I missed and what I didn't miss. I missed wine and chocolate, but I didn't miss crisps or cake. Since then I rarely buy crisps, can only have a bit of chocolate or sweet stuff before being satisfied - I didn't even finish a Twix the other day!

There are different techniques for different people. I tried cold turkey and it worked (mostly) but others may just need to reduce it, wean themselves off junk food. Also if you make it into a 'naughty, must not have it' then some people just want it even more! But others have a tiny bit of something and just scoff the lot (Pringles and Jaffa Cakes come to mind...)

Thanks for the link and advice. How do you regain control and self discipline?

It's very hard, you will likely be 'addicted' to some things. I know when I weened myself off crisps a couple of years ago (need to do it again!!!!) I was awful! I craved them like mad and my temper was frayed a fair bit of the time for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately the good stuff (aka: The BAD stuff) is all easy, cheaper, full of addicting stuff, convenient after a hard tiring day.

The REALLY good stuff largely needs cooking from scratch (though can be helped by batch cooking) and isn't usually as easy for snacking, a lot more expensive (£2 bag of apples or a 50p bag of crisps? It's not a big difference I know but lots of those price differences repeated for various foods tops the shopping bill right up)

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Vikki

I'm in EXACTLY the same boat! (Sat eating pringles for breakfast). I stopped smoking (2 years in August) and gained 2 stone. I'm now really down about my weight, so eat to make myself feel better, vicious circle. I don't eat any veg, however i do like the odd piece of fruit. I just wish I could stop the cravings for chocolate, crisps, pastries, bread and worst of all, my tesco value midget gems (seriously the nicest things I have ever eaten).

I'll subscribe to this thread see if any new ideas come up. I'm actually joining Slimming World tomorrow with my friend to see if that helps. I've done Weight Watchers. It works, but the points just weren't enough for me as I couldn't fill up on free foods with not liking veg.

I've tried not buying the junk, but i have seen myself get dressed and going to the garage at stupid times and paying over the odds (something i can't afford to do) just to get my "hit".

I'm also a major binge eater. I can be good all day, then when i get in from work (i work late) i just pig out. And i seriously can't stop myself! I'm talking a 6 pack of crisps, biscuits, sweets, ect.

I hope you find something that works for you soon. And sorry for the long post. Just so you know.... Your not alone!

I will take a look at the link myself :-)

I echo what Pennylane says, don't have crap in the house at all. A lot of people think sweets, chocolate, cakes, biscuits, crisps, nibbly snacks, and fizzy pop, are food. They aren't they are big doses of CRAP. I don't need to lose weight, but I do have to fight the urge to shove crap down my face, not because I might put on weight, but because sugar is the cause of a whole load of other ilnesses. Sugar is a poison.

There are whole aisles in the supermarket that I don't go down, I think, oh I fancy a cake, or some sweets, but then think, it's going to kill me. I want to live a long life, I want to stay healthy, I want to have a good quality of life, and if I have to give up eating junk then so be it. It's a small price to pay.

Addiction is a terrible thng if it is affecting your health, thank goodness I am now addicted to eating lots of vegetables.

I would say, try and make small changes, when you feel the urge to eat, try distracting yourself with another activity. Look for hobbies which keep you moving and keep your mind occupied. It won't be easy but you must try. For your health's sake. Good luck.

Are you eating because you're bored?
