;) The one you have is an old Sangamo electro/mechanical analogue time clock!

There are several versions of this which can be distinguished by the number of pins on the back that go into the housing, and if it has a day wheel just behind the dial face!
To establish the model, hold the knob on in the middle of the dial and pull and it should come straight out, just like an electrical plug, if it doesnt there may be a retaining screw in the side of the casing that needs to be unscrewed to release it!
On the side of the clock once removed there should be an oblong plate which gives the model info!
They are still made and you can now get digital versions, you will probably need to contact Sangamo for the alternative, be warned though they are expensive new and i wouldnt trust a second hand one!

These clocks are still in use for many differing applications other than heating!

As for heating, they are restrictive as they are just time switches and not programmers, so dont suit modern systems and controls, so you will need to have an experienced heating engineer of electrician versed in controls to give you the options if you decide to change as it will require some wiring modifications, unless you just get a digital single channel modern time clock to replace it?

:pSee now, being old doesnt necessarilly mean redundant:p
