Wireless not showing on iPod touch top bar

I have the latest version of iPod touch which I bought in December . Up until yesterday there was an icon on the top black bar which appeared when I had wireless connection . My Internet service is still working but the icon/symbol has disappeared . Any ideas?

    Either restart or reset your wireless router, or go to Settings on the iPod and check your connection to the network there.

    I have already looked at those . There is no problem with the wireless itself . I have the Internet now but it is just the icon which displays the strength of the connection which has disappeared .

    Ok tried switching off and on again and it seems to have worked this time .

    I was going to suggest just turning the wi-fi off and then on again on the device.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
