Pesky holiday

Hello everyone,

This is my first post so please be gentle :)

We accepted an offer on our house from a cash buyer a couple of weeks ago after being on the market for eight months. We've had an offer accepted on a new house where the vendor has already completed the purchase of their new property, so there's only three of us in the chain.

I've instructed my solicitors and have sent the money for the searches. I've also filled out the property information form and fittings and contents form for the sale. Next week I'll be doing my full mortgage application (I've had to wait for Nationwide to refund my over payments so I can take full advantage of my mortgage porting).

We're going on holiday for two and a half weeks in just over a weeks time. I'm worried that us being away could cause a delay so I was wondering if there is anything I can do in advance to reduce the risk? I'll be able to pick up emails but phone calls would be tricky as we'll be in Australia! I'm also planning to leave all my documents with my parents in case anything needs to be re-sent. Is there anything else I can do?

Many thanks

Make sure your parents have some cash, in case any further surveys, inspections, searches are needed. Then they can pay for these.

Consider giving them limited POA for the period - then they can sign things on your behalf if necessary. Discuss with your solicitor?

Take contact details with you for everyone: solicitor, surveyor, lender, estate agent, buyer, seller, IFA, etc and make sure they all have your email.

Make sure they all have clear instructions to proceed, and know who/how to contact if needed (eg your parents if they have POA)

The pop off and have a good holiday!
