ADSL should be fast enough. Get a speed estimate from a supplier and as long as its 2Mb/sec or above it will be enough. If a supplier says up to 8MB then ask for a more accurate result. The closer you are to an exchange the faster it will be.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You may not need superfast fibre optic - standard broadband could be sufficient. try a speed checker such as the talk talk one here... http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/broadband/essentials
Let us know what the results are. My estimate was 1.5 - 4 Mbps and I on wireless I normaly get 1.3 - 2 Mbps - sometimes less. This is generally enough to stream iPlayer through my TV (my TV has iPlayer built in). It occasionally struggles and I wouldn't expect it to do too well with more than one device trying to stream at the same time.
This speed is pretty low, as I am quite a distance from my exchange. My area is fibre optic enabled now and I am deciding whether to upgrade.
Whether you go with BT, Virgin Media, Talk Talk or anyone else, you will find good and bad reports of service. As a new customer, it is worth checking cash back sites such as quidco for deals.0
