Also, how much notice do you have to give?
I'm just wondering why you can't stick it out until the end of the academic year, and then have a good think about it all over the summer.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. thank you all for your fantastic comments they are all right on the mark and so in tune with what I am thinking.
most of the 'shopping' is for myself and my teenage daughter. I could stop for myself and Im sure hubby would pick up the tab for some of her stuff the rest she can manage without.
yes the cc should be cleared in the next couple of months. im determined.
hubby pays all the household bills already including the mortgage. I pay for our food. there are three of us and I estimate we spend around £300 a month which I think is reasonable.
I would need to give a months notice at my current job but I think I could possibly get away with 3 weeks at a push. I feel that I want a job where I don't have to be 'switched on' all the time and be jolly interesting and energetic. I want to just get on with something without having to constantly engage with people.
I am normally a very sociable person and love interacting with people but right now that is not the case.
Yesterday I was offered a housekeeping/cleaning job cleaning holiday lets. 3 or 4 days a week. I could start this Saturday. Its not well paid but it would cover the food and small bits and pieces like my phone/dds phone and pet insurance. Hubby is really not keen but as several people have said I really need to talk to him about this.
I will try and do this later today but for now I am so grateful for all your replies and suggestions.

It is not just less money though, but perhaps a much more insecure job - maybe it won't last? Maybe that is what DH is worried about.
Also cleaning properly is physically very hard work (as I am sure you know). My MIL used to do cleaning, in a team of cleaners at the school, and a lot slacked off or had sick days and the job still needed to be done.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. you are totally right whitewing. I guess im desperate not to go back really. just have to keep trying to get something suitable and reasonably well paid. thank you x0

I don't know what age groups/subject areas you have worked with or know so apologies if this is way off the mark but have you considered tutoring?
I trained as a teacher but will not be going back into a classroom environment - it's just not for me and I really can get enthusiastic about any of it - but tutoring is a lot less stressful and more rewarding and the pay can okay (£20 - 25+ for an hour, depending on demand/area). You'd have to register as self-employed, swot up on the curriculum/exam syllabus depending on your target age group, advertise for students (school contacts could be a great help here!) and factor in travelling and prep. time of course but it might fit in well alongside other part-time work.
Just a thought...0
