    Just some guy - thankyou so much for your sensible reply. Saga made several mistakes from the off. The renewal fiasco was shabby insult added to injury and the months taken before grudging refund&goodwill came forth was both shameful and inept.

    The word 'accident' has fallen out of general use when it comes to investgiating a claim before finalisation with both insurers and the police, as it implies that nobody is at fault. It is standard fr insurers to refer to them as incidents and the police refer to them as collisions.

    The envelopes may have said home insurance, however this could have just been advertising. You should have at least opened them. Ultimately, if you d not respond to their questions or at least make an attempt to contact them and they have to make a payment under the policy, they could end up pursuing you directly for the costs.
