    Hi Kev64

if you e-mail us at social@scottishpower.com we will sort this out for you. Other posters are correct, in that it will depend when you make the request to move that we get the request from the other supplier. That then influences whether or not we will automatically add the cancellation fee. In any event in your case a manual intervention is needed and we will be happy to do that for you.

    Thanks David

My Scottish Power Capped Price deal is also ending on 31st May, same as OP I think. I've just spent over 15 minutes on the phone in a queue and hung up without speaking to anyone - grr  - I'm trying to understand exactly what the wording about the cancellation fees means:

If you notify us that you wish to change supplier before 1st June 2013 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not move you to our standard prices or apply a cancellation charge

scottishpower company representative - thanks for your reply and I'm probably just being a bit confused....does this mean that if Scottish Power are notified by me (or another supplier) between now and 31st May (15 working days) that I am switching that there will be no cancellation charge?

I wish I could've got through to speak to someone - I really grudge dialling 0845 numbers and being kept on hold for ages double grr :mad:

MissE001 -you can now safely start a switch and even if they put you on the standard tariff in the meantime you would only be on it for a maximum of 2-3 weeks so any extra cost would be negligible.

Well this is a very interesting thread for me....

I am also with Scottish Power and their Capped Price June 2013 contract that ends on the 31st May 2013.

A couple of weeks ago using MSE I opted to change to EDF Blue+Price Price February 2015 due to it's flexibility.... I pay more more than the SP CPJ13 but will have no contract (In any case energy prices have jumped significantly and the EDF B+ deal is still cheaper than other SP contracts).....

Anyway the process has gone ahead and I have received the paperwork from EDF but only today I received a letter from SP encouraging me to stay and that they would not CHARGE A CANCELLATION FEE (£50).... Considering I have not even been given a cancellation date yet I was not very happy and called them. SP simply said all energy companies do this, if they receive notification from the other supplier and you are in contract (irrespective of when the transfer is due to take place) then they will charge the fee.

The £50 completely negates the savings I would make moving to EDF (having gone onto a new SP contract) so the only way I can avoid the cancellation fee is agree to stay with SP. What this actually means is that I will go to EDF in early june (after my SP contract ends anyway).... stay with EDF for 28 days (luckily no cancellation fee) then return to SP having opted for the Help Beat Cancer Discounted Online Feb. 2015 Tariff (which is roughly £20 more than EDF per year but has not cancellation fee).

What a lot of messing around and all because SP are charging a cancellation fee before the contract end date is even actually known!!! I am extremely angry about this and wont make the same mistake again. I think SP are completely wrong applying a charge when they just receive notification and it's just a ploy to make them more money. Having moved back to SP in July I will look to move again immediately after a further 28 days with them.

Never start a switch more than 15/16 days from your tariff end date otherwise you risk fees, as I pointed out earlier one switch only took 21 ( although the next actually took seven weeks !! ) .
