Oil Boiler Service Certificate required?

Might be clutching at straws here but can anyone confirm of the above is a LEGAL requirement in a rented property?
I have found lots of information saying it should be done periodically and a cert issued by a OFTEC registed engineer but can't find if its illegal not to as the Gas Safety cert is?

I'm pretty sure you don't need a safety certificate legally but it is supposed to be service regularly.
I've quickly Googled it to back up my claim and numerous sources saying you don't need a safety certificate but I can't quote the regulations of anything.0 -
No. Unlike gas, oil does not need an annual safety inspection (note, this is not the same as a 'service').
It is wise to get an oil boiler serviced annually to ensure it is functioning efficiently, and to avoid breakdowns, but there is no legal need.
I would recommend using an OFTEC registered engineer, but again, there is no legal need (again, unlike gas where a GasSafe engineer must be used).0 -
Thank you. I've also read that link and it states the tank should be 1.8m away from buildings including sheds and 76cm away from fencing. Mine is situated next to the boundary fence and I would also say next doors conservatory may even be within the 1.8m and also there is the shed not 1/2m behind it. Again is this a legal requirement?
I would say it certainly doesn't comply with regulations set out?0 -
Sorry it's regulation BS5410 I was reading0

It probably complied with the regs when it was installed. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

They apply to new installations.
If your tank was installed before the introduction of these regulations, it does not have to comply retrospectively.
Just as BRs now require, for example, foundations of properties to be a certain depth. But my house was built 150 years ago, with (then normal) shallower foundations. I do not have to knock down my house, re-lay the foundations deeper, and then re-build the house on top. Thank god!
Of course, if you have an old steel tank that is rusting and needs replacing, when you install your nice new plastic tank it will have to comply with current BRs.0 -
It's a new build house only 7 years old?0

Is it England? Not sure if that makes a difference, but thought it worth clarifying...
