Help,do i choose an oil based paint or a water based paint.
the oil based people complain of them yellowing and the water based seem harder to apply, several coats and not so durable.
was going to buy johnstones oil eggshell today but the lady put me off!
help,it has to be not too shiny but durable,3 kids and a dog!

Satinwood or eggshell seem to be a good choice these days.
Try using a small roller for the flat areas, works a treat.0 -
i've been using johnstones satin which can be used on exteriors , got a nice finish to it , it's water based , easy to apply ,dries quickly , cheaper than F&B and dulux , can be mixed in f&b colours0

I just been using Johnstones acrylic satin along with their waterbased undercoat. The guy at paint store said its good paint. I tried Dulux egg shell it still goes yellow after a couple of months0

Satin wood will stay white for a long time and is as durable as gloss.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Johnstones Aqua. Water based gloss - it's the dogs danglers!
Cheers
PS I hate satinwood - almost as much as I do silk emulsion. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
Keystone may I ask how glossy is water based gloss compared to oil and would you use it outside?
Sorry to hijack tread but I value you opinionMaybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'0 -
Wilkinson's paint is pretty good, in my experience. I painted all the woodwork on the front of a three bed semi--two bays, a door , small bedroom window, gutters and fascia boards-- with a litre tin of their one coat gloss. If they do a one coat, brilliant white, water-based satin finish for internal woodwork, I'd be tempted to give that a shot.
I used Johnstone's one coat internal satin on my bathroom door and panelled ceiling, and found the coverage disappointing.0 -
Another vote here for Johnstones Aqua. I have used other water based gloss paint before, but Aqua is easily the best. I have used it on a few doors so far, and am more than pleased with how glossy it is, and I would say that you would be hard pressed to tell it from oil based gloss.0
