I second the next sets, the pants last for ages.

We're not in un-poppered vests yet, but the poppered ones we have from Kiddicare/Morrison's Nutmeg range have washed really nicely.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

I always used either Next or M&S for vests as they wash well and do not shrink.
Pants at the potty training stage just go for cheap and a large quantity, you can get through quite a few pairs a day at first so you do not want to be running out.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

Thanks for the tips everyone. It still gets a bit chilly at night and my son always kicks the covers off, so he tends to sleep in a vest, except on very hot nights. I hadnt thought of Argos, so will definitely check them out, otherwise M&S sound good and they are only £6 for a pack of 5. I'll start off cheap and cheerful for pants - Primark possibly.0

American Apparel do excellent quality clothes for infants. Super soft and sweat-shop free production. Good value too.0

M & S pants and vests aren't very expensive, and last forever, can be washed over and over again. Works out cheaper in the long run than buying something that doesn't last....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Cheapest pants you can find until he is potty trained! And no need for vests until the winter.____________________________________________

Tesco vests have been good for us - we had to go to big boy vests really early as DS hates being enclosed in clothes. He likes to be able to get hold of the hem and fiddle with it.
Not done boys pants yet as DS has not got any ideas in that direction yet - in fact he's stay in the same skanky nappy all day if we let him! But experiences with DD and other friends children would suggest letting him chose his own pants - if he's picked them and they are a favourite character/colour it helps with the motivation to keep them dry - well you wouldn't want to wee on Thomas/Bob the builder/Fireman Sam - would you?0
