Boys vests and pants - any recommendations?

DS1 is 27 months old and with potty training on the horizon, plus the fact that his popper vests are getting too small, it is time to buy some normal underwear - vests and pants. He is tall for his age, so I'm looking at aged 3-4 years probably.
Can anyone recommend good quality but relatively inexpensive underwear? Something that won't shrink in a hot wash. With their popper vests and babygrows it was trial and error (e.g. Primark vests and Peacock socks were costly mistakes!), and I want to avoid the same mistakes this time. Grateful for any tips.

We're not quite ready for potty training, so no advice on pants, but I moved my 2 1/2 year old into big boys vests a few months ago as he's also tall and had grown out of his popper vests.
I'd say don't go for Sainsbury's vests. The ones we have haven't washed well, they've got shorter and wider.
We also have a couple of sets from Mothercare and they've washed really well and kept their shape. I'll certainly be interested to hear if there are cheaper options for good quality underwear though, so will be keeping an eye on this thread

I find Tesco pants for boys are on the small side for their ages (my boys are average height and build.) I buy character pants from Asda usually and they're fine. The best ones they've had recently have been character pants from Argos of all unlikely places.I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

I have girls but would say for pants go with cheap quantity initially, ie asda or primark as you may have lots of accidents.
I would not get too many vests as, with a bit of luck, we will have hotter weather soon.0 -
My 27 month old LO has been out of poppered vests for a while. Found M&S vests to be good.
For pants, its recommended you buy a size or two bigger as it makes it easier for them when learning to get them up and down (in hurry) when potty training. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Tesco or asda for boys character pants, they wash brilliantly.
Have also found the character pants e.g spiderman etc in home bargains and b&m bargains wash fabulously0 -
M&s and Boots (mini club) vests are longer and slimmer (IMO) and wash well
Boys pants from asda, tesco are great but the vests (and girls pants) seem to wash and come out twisted, wider and shorter.0 -
I use Primark pants for my LO (almost 4 now) They wash well and I haven't had any issues with them.
Vest wise, Sainsbury's do not wash well. George ones are ok. Matalan ones too.0 -
next boys sets are great
lovely soft thick cotton and nice colours too
my boy has worn them since he was tiny , you get a good couple of years out of them , we even pass them on as they still look fresh.0 -
I wouldn't bother buying any vests until about October. What I normally do is buy vests a size or two too big which leaves room for tucking in and a bit of shrinkage. I find Primark thermal vests are good enough but if you want quality then I would say M&S.
If you feel it's a bit cold yet to go vest-less then what I also do is buy plain long sleeved t-shirts from H&M (white, navy, grey) and put them under t-shirts so that the t-shirt looks like it's got two tone sleeves iykwim. It also means you get the wear out of t-shirts you might not use if it's too cold.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0
