Talk talk, two weeks in and regretting it.

I went with talk talk because their phone, fibre broadband and TV package was very attractively priced.

But, buy cheap get cheap and their service certainly is.

From ordering it was 17 days before they could do the change over, which I thought was pretty quick, 14 days later, having not received my new router I rang up to enquire where it was, apparently it was 'in the post'

I did receive it 1 day before the go live and everything went well on the day, broadband swapped from BT to talk talk in about 20 minutes, excellent.

Then I had to wait 2 more weeks for an engineer to visit and instal fibre broadband, he turned up on time and took about 40 minutes to do the deed, hurray superrfast broadband!

10 minutes later after he had left we realised the phone wasn't working, it rang but there was no dial tone and no way of answering it.

Contact talk talk on line, they did line tests and said everything was fine, the fault was probably at my end and I would have to agree to pay £50 if it was.

5 phone calls from my mobile, 15 text messages and three more line test later they agree to send an engineer out the next day but only if I agree to pay £50 if the 'fault is found to be inside the property' I was unable to get round this because there is no way to actually speak to an operator without accepting it.

The engineer comes next day and identifies a fault with one of the 'boxes' installed, replaced it and everything works fine, still not told me that they won't be trying to charge me £50 though.

Having had no news on when I could expect to receive my free you view box I ring to ask, only to be told that it was not part of the package I had signed up to, what!!!!! Grrrr. After some discussion it was agreed that they would send me a you view box along with some power line adaptors (which I had to pay £20 extra for) but as my router is in a different room to my main tv I needed them.

So today my you view box arrived, hooray! But no power line adaptors because they had forgotten to include them!

So I ring them again and they tell me that it will be another 3 to 5 working days before I receive them.

So my question is, I have been with talk talk for 5 weeks or so now so obviously outside the cooling of period, have I any chance of cancelling and being able to change to a ISP etc who can actually manage to deliver?

Oh and just to rub salt in the wound I have just received 3 emails from them letting me know that my TV service is live! No it bleeding isn't and won't be for another week but I bet they will be efficient enough at taking my money

  • I went with Talk Talk from sky, bad move, have been with them for four months and a bit.

I have tv, landline and mobile, my catch up freezes every few minuets sane with internet and mobile phone Well they sent me a bill saying I hadn't paid end of March. I had but paid on line and the money went to land line which is dose so they say. any way after a lot of phone calls being passed to different numbers and back again not to mention trying to get someone to understand what I wanted and to understand them I finally managed to sorte it out and get phone re connected.

However to day I have had a new bill saying I have an outstanding balance of £72 and current balance of £36, iam at a total loss of what to do and am putting off going through all this again. I have even said I will cancel all but its going to cost a lot of money any suggestions any one?

Why don't you cancel the adaptors, then go out and buy your own (which would have been quicker to do in the first place)?
The £50 mantra is standard, every ISP will recite that to you before they report a fault to OR, because if the fault is on your internal wiring or extensions, then they get charged by OR and want to pass that cost back to you.
No, you cannot void your contract without penalty 2 weeks in, all you can ask for is a credit for the downtime on the various services you've not had fully from day one.

Well the annoying thing is, if I had realised that the router did not connect to the you view box wirelessly I would have had the router installed next to the TV.

But I am now going to have a look to see if I can get them locally, thanks for the suggestion.

The router is wireless, the box is not. The router needs to be installed near to your NTE5 master socket.
You won't get a set of Homeplugs for £20 though.

I know that the box is not wireless now, I didn't know it when the engineer from talk talk came and installed the fibre router, if I had then I would have had it installed closer to the TV.

My router and modem are currently installed 7 metres away from the phone line master socket, which is in the loft.

The installed involved fitting a new socket and I could have had this sited in a different location, instead I took the engineers advice.

You don't get a proper Humax YouView box with Talk Talk, just some Chinese knock off..

    Hi,

Well I went live with talktalk on 07.05.2013 and got my router on friday 03.05.2013 so got my equitment in time, also I got my youview box 1 day later when I went live and everything is running smootly, my youview box has no problems so far.

The only problem though is my unbilled calls which I don't understand, see my recent post for more details.

overall talktalk is fine with me at the moment :D

    Regards
    Shaun
  • Hello to anyone that can help offer advise. My mum signed up for Talk Talk and went live on the 24th March 2014. Since then we did recive the You View box which was not needed and not wanted. As we got it we tried to set it up and after it was done he phone didn't work. So we uninstalled it. Since then the phone line does not work from time to time and the red light on the router comes on which means no internet. I have called Talk Talk and made a complaint due to the phone not working. They have since got the engineers to test the line and said it was all Ok that they could not find any faults on the line and that it was probably the router. So they suggested that I call customer service and request a new router which I have done for my mother. But she is so upset that she wants to cancel it all. upon speaking to them today they have said there will be a fee of £288 and change to pay for cancellation.
After such a short time with Talk Talk and things not working as they should be can they make my mother pay that money and have we passed the cooling of period.
Thanks so much if you can help of offer advice.

Welcome to the forum. This thread is nearly a year old. You'll get a much better response if you delete this post and start a new thread of your own.
But no, you can't cancel for this reason. without penalty. You need to give TT the chance to remedy the problem . Is changing the router such a problem?
Connecting the YouView box should have no impact upon your phone line at all-it connects to your aerial, and only to the router when using the on-demand function.
