Indeed, polishing weekly is way over the top, it'll screw the paintwork.

For wax, I recommend Supernatural Carnauba, it's better than anything I've used before. Costs about £65 for a small tub but it should last many years so it's actually good value.

We all agree that polish is an abrasive but what a lot of people don't realise is that every time you apply polish you take off a very fine layer of the clear coat. Dependant on what polish you use and how vigorous you are it can only take about 100 applications or so until you're down to the paint. For most this isn't an issue but if you're polishing weekly then it'll only a couple of years or so until you've completely stripped off the clear coat and your down to the actual paint finish, and that's assuming it's a new car. With older, used cars you have no idea how much clear coat you have to start with.

tyres, i dont bother with, tyre gell holds dirt and grains, i get a shoe polish brush x2 1 for on and one for off sensai miyagi style, bit of shoe polish to rejuvinate and prevent cracking and nice black walls perfect.

ocd with paint work i say is preventative and reassuring measures.

    hi

nice tip on the tyre polish, I normally use the autoglym tyre care, it works ok on the motorbikes as they are all new tyres, the transit van tyres are 9 years old now(rear, ill move them up to the front when the fronts need replacing again, rears have loads of tread still on fronts are 4-5 years old) been on from new and it doesn't work as well so will try the shoe polish.

I put a search in for removing the polish ive got on the plastic trim, I read about nail polish remover but didn't have any, so have just been out and scrubbed it with a hard nail brush (nothing on it) and it seams to have moved it, ill mask it off next time,(in the next few weeks) I use autoglym super resin polish and then turtle wax on the van but use autoglym aqua-wax on the bikes with micro-fibers. if the polish starts to come back through the trims whats the best to use, I put back to black on the trims which only masks it for a while. I use autoglym bumper care on the bumpers and that brings them up good, but should I be cleaning them with anything first to get a longer lasting finish.

also whats the clay bar do that ive heard mention? ive not seen them on sale, or not noticed them. whats the benefit of using one.

Old thread alert! Use a clay bar to get off the bonded contaminants you probably can't see but can feel with your fingertips. A clay bar should take even old paintwork back to a glass like smooth finish, ready for a polish and wax/seal.

I have never tried reglaze but i do use a quick detailer after every wash, i use Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer and i love as it makes the car look really good after a wash

I would be wary of buying autosmart products from e bay unless you are 100% happy that you trust the seller

many of the autosmart products are sold full strength and you add to a spray bottle and dilute to use, there was reports that some unscrupulous sellers were watering the stuff down and selling on, then when you add water it is to weak and will not work properly
