I can see I am going to have to buy some sunflower seeds now, as I feel like I am missing out!“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Paying too much for aomething is subjective. Plus if someone needs a thing maybe they prefer to buy it when they need it instead of waiting for a price reduction and go without
Quantity v quality on the kitchen rolls i guess. Some economy towels are absolutely rubbish
By 'subjective' you're suggesting it's a matter of opinion. Apart from the point that everything, ultimately, is a matter of opinion (and that point itself is a matter of opinion(!)), it's certainly not, in my view, a matter of opinion when you can pay £1 for something or 50p for the same thing. There's no "opinion" there that contradicts that £1 is paying too much and 50p isn't. Albeit that the £1 is making a comparison to paying 50p. (It's all relative. But it can't seriously be disputed that 50p is less than £1.00. In much the same way that it cannot reasonably be argued that 2 is not less than 3. It's not a matter of opinion that 2 is less than 3, similarly it's isn't a matter of opinion that 50pence is less than £1.00. 50p is less than £1. Fact. It cannot be seriously disputed, otherwise you are taking issue with the entire human-created basis of mathematics in the first place ("mathematics" itself being a human-created word and concept) and arguing against calculation as performed by and created by human beings, with no existence other than in the minds of most of a human population. I'm getting very philosophical! In someone's opinion!)
Waiting for a price reduction and going without: I agree, sometimes I've had to do 'emergency shops' because we've ran out and, on those occasions - which I keep to as little as possible - I've paid more for something than I would by waiting. However, it's about forward-planning and getting enough to cover what you'll need (without buying too much and causing waste - and thus not saving money, on the contrary wasting it). Regarding having to wait for a price reduction, often it's unnecessary - I usually find there is some equivalent, that does the job equally well, that is on price reduction at the time whilst another brand is not (and then later the other brand will be on reduction and the first one not). Brand loyalty is what causes more spending than you need.
The stores know this and, one week, have the Chicken on offer, next week the Southern Fried Chicken, then back, then the 2 pack on offer and the 4 pack not. First the value pears pack, then the normal pack, then the loose, then the value. Anyone who buys the same version and same size every time they shop is losing out. I'm still managing to get my pears! And the normal ones are now the same variety as the value ones were last week (that are now much lower in weight, whilst the normal ones are higher in weight than the value were before, even if the normal are 10p more expensive, but also more weight than the previous value ones, therefore same price by weight - I pay the same (per unit) - I buy them less if the weight is more). Not necessarily the exact actual situation, just an example of how it works.0 -
