Evening all.
Happy birthday Savvy Sal :bdaycake:
Just popped on to say I've not participated in the Mr Shoes glitch shopping either (mainly because I can't make head or tail of it and because my 2 local Mr Shoes don't have SS tills I'd need to use).
If it's still running later in the week I may be persuaded to participate though just to see what all the fuss is about

"...he has always been older and wiser than his years..."
I've picked out the picture showing him sloping at an angle to the right.
"'I'm a bit of a geek.'"
"'I'm not really into normal teenage stuff...'" (in fact the whole of what the article quotes him as saying there is of interest).
"...computer-savvy teenager..."
""He's kind and considerate and genuinely helpful...'"
"And he does know his stuff."
"It's a hobby... an obsession..." (emphasis added).
And the comment from 'peahair' of Stoke: "...a quiet young lad..."
Mmmm...
Of course, in my own way, I know that I should not create speculation but I can't help but go ahead anyway and more than likely succeed in doing so (am I really aware of the possible consequences of my actions???!!;) One suspects not!;);):rotfl:)
Please folks - do NOT discuss. But a short comment from fairclaire/Angelsmadv that doesn't attribute anything to anyone might be appreciated.
Great minds

True, there are. But I often think its things like buying the cheaper ingredients or getting that margarine you don't really prefer (but have a coupon for). I can understand why people spend what they do, in particular when they're buying lots of fresh produce/don't like the taste of value items.
I never get margarine I don't prefer, even if there's a coupon. My shopping includes value items whose taste I like (I draw the line short of value pork sausages though - they just look horrid to me!). Sometimes I actually prefer the taste of the value items. Or they aren't 'less good' to me. Really I think a lot of it is about marketing and the businesses telling us to believe the higher priced products are better, whereas in fact read (or I'm sure you have read) the downshift challenge pages on this website. The blind taste tests that reveal people sometimes choose the value item, unaware it is that. The decision as to whether something is "finest" being made by the person selling it - why do I have to accept their word? In my view, it's often a label applied by sellers to get their buyers to pay them more. I suspect some of the value products are made in the very same factories as the "brands".
And the horsemeat scandal perhaps also tells us about consumers' perception of brands. It wasn't just Tesco Value and Asda Smartprice that got caught up but at least one Bird's Eye product too. I had someone incredulous that Bird's Eye produce could ever get caught up after the scandal had already broken for a while. Marketers and companies do all they can to differentiate their products in the eyes of their consumers. A cynic might say in fact they're all the same and often made in the same places by the same companies. I never understand those who buy expensive cosmetics at over £50. The health and beauty sector is big business. The brand image is worth money and it is the value consumers attribute - and are willing to pay for - the brands. The general public does trust brands and is willing to pay hard money for them, whether or not the general public admits that it is or isn't.
On occasion I will buy things I do not need - almost always if I am in effect being paid to take them!
[Anyroad, a bit heavy for 10 o'clock at night - I think I'll go and lie down in a dark room for a short while!]0 -

Happy birthday Savvy Sal.
Another May birthday here, towards the end of the month. I too think it's a great time to have a birthday. It always fell during half term when I was at school, which was the best.
Just been watching Here Comes Honey Boo Boo on TLC  anyone else?0
