Yeah best bet is to ask your mates.

If you were one of mine (or near birmingham!) I'd be able to give you one of various blackberries, a couple of iPhones 3gs and 4-5 PAYG orange sims for nothing! It adds up if people start to think about what they actually have.

I keep these for various family members and friends who visit from overseas so they can call me for lifts while they are out and about in the UK :-D

Check your mates - or possibly freecycle?
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.

Thanks Trajal and Grumbler. Grumbler excuse my ignorance, but does buying the Virgin sim mean that I am locked into the Virgin network? Thanks, Dawn.

He said SIM free= not locked.
So you can use any SIM/network you like.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

No sign of the phone or the sim in Tesco Carmarthen today. Will have a look in Haverfordwest branch this week.

Me again. A friend has offered to give me a Motorola phone-she says it's on the Vodaphone network. I presume it's PAYG. Am I right in thinking that I just need to buy a new sim and 'top it up'?
    Thanks.

You can order a free sim that will need topping up.
If the phone is locked to Vodaforne, it'll work with the following sims:
    Vodafone
    Talkmobile
    Ovivo

Check the last one. It costs £15 (goes to the balance), but gives you free 150m+200t every month without any further topups. Extra calls/texts cost 8p/5p and are covered by your balance: http://ovivomobile.com/offer/ovivo-for-phones/

Thanks for the information Grumbler-much appreciated. I think I'm destined not to get one though as friend just called to say phone is dead and not charging. My search will continue!!
