Flights to Gran Canaria

I am looking for flights to Gran Canaria from Birmingham or Manchester for April 2014 - school holiday time, I can't find many. Am I too late or too early? This will be the first time booking separate flights to accommodation so would greatly appreciate your advice! Many thanks in advance.
