Toshiba Laptops

I've always had Toshiba laptops and overall been very impressed by the quality. I'm about due to purchase a new one. Can anyone please tell me if they are still as good quality as it has been about four years since my last one.

    Why? What are your requirements?

I'm using a four year old Toshiba and bought my mum one last year. Ask me about hers in three years time.

I have a six year old Toshiba laptop running Vista, and a Toshiba notebook with W7, never had any problems with either.

Six years old? What's the full model number of the Vista machine?

I bought a budget Toshiba 3 years ago. Suddenly died on me (main board fried).

My experience of Toshiba laptops as a former repair technician is that generally they are well built with good quality components. Most of the problems I encountered were due to overheating caused by the build up of dust behind the heatsink and/or CPU fan failure. These were not difficult problems to resolve as access was pretty good if I recall correctly.

By the way, the often quoted fixit of using a vacuum cleaner to suck dust out through a laptop's vent rarely if ever works. The fins of the heatsink are far too close together to let anything other than the smallest specks through wereas in many cases there is a pretty thick layer of dust/fluff which can only be removed by disassembly.

I have a Toshiba laptop and in comparison to a similarly priced Acer machine, which I gave to my daughter, the latter has a more quality feel with regards build.
The Toshiba seems to have been produced down to a price using cheap, thin plastic and the keyboard flexes quite alarmingly, as does the case and screen.
However, it has been totally reliable and does everything required of it.
