Cheapest place for general stationery

I need to buy quite a bit of general stationery such as envelopes, slide binders etc. I've been searching for hours to make sure I get the best deal.

Before I bite the bullet I thought I would check here for any recommendations.

I find it can vary from product to product, and also depending on the quantity you want. Some companies will price match, however, especially perhaps local ones, so if you find most of what you want in one place but some bits are a bit pricey, you could always ask.

For me, time is (to a certain extent) money, so I tend to use the small stationery shop down the road for most things. He's cheap, and he likes our work (we're a charity), and he delivers at no charge, and he'll order anything he can't find in his labrynthine shelves. If you can find someone like that, you're away!

I use viking direct for all our stationery and have found them to be really competitive. They often have some really good deals on as well

W H Smith are currently selling reams of 80gsm white copy paper for £1.49 (allegedly reduced from £4.99). If you can find one of their offer vouchers (they were on the sales counters) you get can a further £5 off when you buy £12 worth of stationery. The paper is not the best but fine for everyday use and I managed to get 8 reams for £7.

Register with Staples as a business user and they'll send you discount vouchers on a regular basis - register for their points card as well. They are current selling HP Bright White 90gsm inkjet paper on a BOGOF, normally £9.99 each. With a £10 off £30 spend voucher, I got 6 reams for £20.

Oh yes, I forgot Staples! We regularly get TWO vouchers posted to us at work, I don't use them very often, but I've used them for very bulky stuff my local chap isn't likely to have, and we do have a local branch. The first vouchers they sent were £10 off ANY spend, so that was really good value! the latest batch were £10 off a minimum spend, still useful!

If you need small numbers of things then Tesco are hard to beat. For larger quantities Viking Direct seem pretty cheap.

Via Quidco I have used Euroffice and also others like Staples - as you get cashback from Quidco it's worth doing. I also use www.kelkoo.co.uk and www.pricerunner.co.uk before comitting to buy anything as they show who does cheapest ink cartridges etc.

Lyreco have loads of sales reps that make sure you have lowest price. Office Depot have just started cold calling customer to get them back. Ive used lyreco for over a yera now and they are very good products at cheapest prices. If you find a lower price call the sales rep on mobile and they will under cut it and add to your account.

We use both Viking Direct and Neat Ideas in our office. I find that often each will be cheaper on certain items, but that over a large order the price differences tend to even out. So Viking might have paperclips for 10p and paper for £5 but Neat Ideas has paperclips for 20p and paper for £4.80.

Occasionally I have a search to see whether anyone out there is cheaper, but I think in the end they do all average out. Each store will have a couple of really great deals, but normal prices on everything else.
