Can I sue Halifax bank?

I went to Halifax bank branch to change my address. The branch confirmed that they have entered my new address in the system. I have 9 different accounts (1 current account + 8 savings accounts). When I came home, I checked on online banking and noticed that correspondence address has not been changed for 2 accounts. I went back to branch and the branch again confirmed that my address has been changed now and they asked me to check online banking after 24 hours. When I checked my online account after 24 hours, I still saw my old address as correspondence address. Then I went to branch again and the same story happened.

It was very inconvenient for me to go to branch againa and again, so I called telephone banking. The guy on phone said that there is some system error and he can't fix it on phone, so I need to go to branch. They compensated me with few quids for inconvenience.

I again went to branch and the branch said, they can't do anything more and they have the correct details in system. I told them that my correspondence address has not been changed when I check my online account and all postal mails will go to my old address.

Now I am helpless and really annoyed on Halifax. I have lot of savings with Halifax (mostly fixed deposits). I don't want to bank with this kind of bank, but I can't break fixed deposits as there is a penalty.

Can I sue Halifax bank for all this? I am concerned that if my postal mails keep going to my old address, someone can misuse them.

Please advise. Thanks

If they say it's all been changed on their system, perhaps the internet banking has the issue?

Can you confirm anything has actually been sent to the wrong address since you changed it with them? Save yourself the hassle and go paperless for anything you can. Get it in writing from them that all your accounts have been changed to the new address.

You must have a lot of time on your hands if you want to take a banking giant to court. What would you sue for?

Halifax branch is saying that address has changed but telephone banking says it's not been changed. Online banking shows that address has not been changed. Telephone banking says that all posts will go to old address.

Are you saying that customer should accept these kind of glitches and just live with them? I need paper statements as I use them to show the transactions for some important work.

No I am not saying that. I'm saying get it in writing from the branch you are dealing with that it has been changed. Then if anything does go to your old address you can complain and quite rightly be compensated.

Can you not save the documents to memory stick and have them all electronically? You can print them off when/ if you really have to.

I will not be able to get statements from old address. It's very far from my new address and the new occupier of the house may just throw my statements or misuse them. I also get tax certificates for savings accounts on address.

I need paper forms as my work requires the original paper statements from bank.

Sue Halifax bank? On what possible basis?
Legal action should always be considered as a matter of last resort. But if you want to go ahead with some trumped up, vexatious claim, I'm sure the court will gladly relieve you of your hard earned cash.

I would, however, suggest that if you have a reason for complaint, you first try following the banks own complaint procedure.

    You complain to the bank.

They have 8 weeks to resolve your complaint. If you are not satisfied you can then raise the complain to the FOS.

    That is the official route.

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Whether they win is another thing.

you need to follow the banks complaint procedure, put your complaint in writing to them and allow 8 weeks for a response. If you are not satisfied after this period then you escalate your complaint to the FOS.
