The financial year runs from April To April. say I put in £5,760 in March this year, I can't put any in again til after the dealine in which case I could put in another £5760 but I won't be able to put in anything more til next April. So I've put in £11520 in one year but only £5760 in the financial year.
Hi,but isn't the £5760 for cash only the rest can be stocks etc?

Here's my two pennyworth. This is from money.co.uk

How much can I save in an ISA this year?

ISA allowances last for 12 months and run from one tax year to another - 6th April to 5th April - as opposed to being based on the Gregorian calendar (January to December).
For the 2012/13 tax year the total annual ISA allowance is £11,280 of which £5,640 can be saved in a Cash ISA.
For the 2013/14 tax year the total annual ISA allowance is £11,520 of which £5,760 can be saved in a Cash ISA.

The £5,760 is what can be saved in total in a Cash ISA, the rest of the allowance would have to go into an Investment ISA. But in total you can have up to £11,280. So I agree with Weeowens.

Each tax year you have an ISA allowance, for tax year 2013/2014 (6 April 2013 until 5 April 2014) your allowance is £11,520. You can save up to £5,760 in a cash ISA with the remainder in a stocks and shares ISA, or, you can invest your full allowance in a stocks and shares ISA.

doesnt ask how much you are allowed in cash or other means. Question is clear: What is the maximum annual ISA allowance this financial year (2013/2014)?
