in Water bills
Received letter today saying we're using too much water and our bill is going to more than doubled.
Shocked and stunned I called them.
They said it appears we've always used a lot based on meter readings and their monthly bill is based on average use of 2 adults doing a load of washing a day, 2 showers, gardening etc
Told them we don't have a garden and wash the car locally and do 3 loads a week
Told them we can't afford the increase. They appeared to understand and have asked me to take readings to ascertain a leak.
But I'm worried the readings remain unchanged.
She seemed lenient in suggesting an adjustment to the amount but not back to the original £28
Any advice and suggestions, quite worried and angry really and don't have a clue how to go about it

Spoke to them again, the reading they have from 6 weeks ago is ten times less than what it shows now
clearly looks like there's a problem with the meter & a technician will be coming out.
Our bill of £28 will remain unchanged til end of the month
If they can still prove we're using double consumption (which we're clearly not), then our bill will go to £42 to cover the outstanding balance. That's still a 50% increase and were not happy.
Wash up once a day, 4 showers total a day, no dishwasher, no garden, no car washing, 3 washing loads a week. I don't get it.
They say av use is 105 cubic m and apparently we've averaged 2250
