They always go on to say can I ask why you are not interested. There sometimes is no getting through to these people that come that I do not want to listen to them
I had this problem... until i told them...
"i am a minister of my own faith,
im a p!ssed up testicostical and we believe in 2 things,
1 - in the goodness and healing benefits of lager
2 - that the story of god and jebus was made up years ago to make profit from war and scare children.
now....can i get you a leaflet?"
they practically ran down my drive!
i aslo have a standard reply to cold callers on the phone (well i did, we never pick up anymore, the machine answers all the calls) that i stole from seinfeld,
they call ... can i interest you in....blah blah blah
i say im not interested thank you, if theydont give up at this point and carry on with thier speech then i tell them i dont have time to talk about it now and if they would like to give me thier personal number i can call them back later, of course they will tell you they cant do that, so i say
"oh... so you dont like people calling you at home? i guess you know how i feel" and put the phone down
makes me chuckle every damn time

I always say 'Sorry I don't deal with anything at the door - bye' and swiftly close the door, not giving them chance to reply.0

we don't have many cold callers anymore - ever since Bedforshire became a no cold calling zone ;-)
They run pretty quickly when this is pointed out to them..

If you ring your local police station, they will send you a free sticker to put on your door telling cold callers they are not welcome....Our dream has come true...

I usually do not go to the door if I think it is someone selling something. If I do answer I always say politely "not interested, thank you" and quickly shut the door.
One winter evening, I was alone in the house and answered the door as I was expecting someone. It was a double glazing salesman. We already have double glazing actually. I said my usual piece and shut the door. This guy then opened the letter box and shouted abuse at me. Very, very scary. I raced to the back door to make sure it was locked and then thankfully, he had gone away.
I want to feel safe in my own home and think cold calling, either by phone or in person should be illegal. I have registered with the Telephone Preference Service and changed my phone number and do not get bothered now. When I do have to give my number out to some company, I always stress that I do not wish to contacted on that number unless it is to do with the business I am transacting.0 -

We get a lot of this, and charity collectors too. Most of the time they are fine but other times they can get quite cheeky. We had a fight with a Quarriers girl last week who, when we said 'no thanks' got stroppy and said 'well if you can't afford £2 per week'. Cheeky !!!!!. Just because I chose the charities I donate to rather than being talked into it at my door.
I wish companies would realise that cold calling isn't the way to get people to buy or donate. I ignore the door if I am in alone. Otherwise, try to get rid of people quick - it's a bit of an invasion to have someone at your door bothering you.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
when ever someone comes to my door trying to sell things, I always say, oh sorry I don't live here, I am just house sitting

We have this problem too, usually foreign students with their paintings or dodgy charity collectors who turn up in the middle of Eastenders. It really bugs me as I want to have peace and quiet at the end of the day, and not have strangers on the doorstep.
I do try and be nice but firm and just say "No thanks" and close the door quickly. I was thinking about putting a sign up, although I'm not sure how much it will help.
Once the baby is here in August, and some idiot has woken them up by ringing the doorbell, they'll get a fright of their lives having an angry hormonal new mum shouting at them.
