if you get benefit - jsa? you would be better opening a post office account rather than another bank account, could also contact the jobcentre to arrange to have the benefit paid elsewhere eg. your mum's account until set up so the bank account doesn't use it up, although banks shouldn't take your income if it is only benefit but mistakes happen and take time to fix.
go into the branch, banks nowadays do have some sort of debt help or advice where you can go.

Go to a citizens advice bureau, on JSA you could get a £1/month token offer set up and the interest/charges most likely stopped.
