Can anyone tell me what to expect with dental IV sedation?

I have a two hour appointment tomorrow, and due to extreme pain during a root canal last year (anatomical variation? I don't numb up on the lower jaw) I have opted for IV sedation, (midazolam) for another RT and crown prep, and two other fillings.
I just cant think of anything else at the moment, and wonder what to expect. Will I still feel the pain?
thanks for any help

hi there
I have been sedated a few times for various dental treatments, and its actually ok. You dont really "feel" that out of it, its more like you dont care what is happening to you.
I am the worst scaredy cat when it comes to dentists but i actually didnt mind the sedation. I felt tired after and slept for a while, then by the evening I was back to normal!

I went for dental sedation last October to have two back teeth removed, the nurse explained that unfortunatley the iv sedation will only work if you want i to work.
Being the kind of person who likes to be in control, my family laughed at me having it, and they were right to it did'nt take affect on me.
The nurse kept putting more iv sedation in until she said she couldn't use no more, then afterwards he nurse said so you don't remember anything but i did and still do.
However both my sisters and my mum have had it done and don't remember anything about the dental treatment, so works on some but not others.0 -

If you're not yet too pished, do a search of this board for dental sedation because I think there's been something about it before. Would do it but about to be booted off computer by DH!

I am the worlds biggest coward when it comes to dental treatment. I was told I could have a tooth saved by root fillings and other frightening things. When I said I would rather have it out I was offered sedation which I reluctantly agreed to. (Worried about cost and effectiveness)
After the injection I remember looking at a picture on the wall thinking "this is useless, it is not working" The next thing I knew I was being told everything was done and I went out to the waiting room and my sister took me home where I went to bed and had a sleep.
I would thoroughly recommend it despite the cost.0 -

I have had it done lots of times. They give you sedation in the back of your hand , so as long as you are ok with needles then thats all you need to worry about ! The drug they use now actually stops you from remembering whats going on .Just go with the flow and you will have a nice sleep while they get everything done! Recovery doesnt take too long, once you are round , you should be able to start going home within half an hour , when you get home the best thing to do is take a couple of paracetamol and go have a sleep for a while.0

I had this 3 weeks ago for a tooth extraction, but i was awake through it all.
I couldn't feel anything or remember it. Got home at 6.30 and they done it at 4.00, then i had the best nights sleep ever 7 till 8 in the morning. How come it didn't knock me out whilst i was having it done?0
