  • My partner owns a small 1 bedroom house worth around 100k with 75k left on the mortgage, I've just sold my house that I owned with my soon to be ex wife:mad: , we now rent privately & she rents hers out, i made a fair bit on mine but have debts to pay which defaulted when my wife & i separated. My aim is to pay them off but they will only be satisfied defaults, hoping to apply in around 12-18 months time. We'll probably sell hers & use what she makes as a deposit.

    Thanks copper:)

My advice to you pitbull, is put every spare bit of cash to clearing debts, once they are clear start (if you can) overpaying on your partners mortgage, as the less you owe on that, the more you will have for a deposit on your new home you buy together :)

Also, give yourselves (small) rewards on the way, no use being miserable while you are on the road to your new life debt free:)

You are at the start of the challenge, but believe me, 2 years will fly by, set a challenge to yourselves, monthly or whatever (we set 36 months to clear mortgage, and savings), it isn't easy, but stay focussed on the end result !
Also, get you free for ever noddle report, and check it monthly, and dispute anything that is incorrect asap..

Don't give up, a couple of years from now if you get stuck in, you will be house hunting together
current official end date of mortgage= 2037-aiming for 1st March 2029. mortgage balance start of challenge- 25/11/2016 £245,695 mortgage balance 17/10/25 - £97,000 2025 challenge- get mortgage balance to £95,000 by new years eve 2025, and a years outgoings in premium bonds after water system paid for

Well thanks everyone for the lovely messages :)

We had an offer accepted on our dream cottage this morning, and currently going between excitement/nerves about completing the house buying process :j

The last 3 years have been challenging saving and rebuilding my lovely husbands credit, but it has all been definitely worth it, I wouldn't change a thing !

We are so happy, heres to a smooth sale process

Our mortgage offer arrived in the post today.

I can honestly say I never believed we would get a mortgage with Halifax, they have offered us a great rate, we have a brilliant mortgage broker, he went through all the history regarding my husbands divorce issues, and obviously Halifax could see we are great with our financial dealings, so all our hard work has been worth it :j
