as already mentioned, the Bosch mowers are great.

I recently purchased this one and have no complaints at all.

I did a lot of user review reading before I chose a mower and the Bosch Rotak reviews were nothing short of excellent.

My turf was layed 3 weeks ago and seems to be growing at an amazing rate, so far I find I am cutting it every 3 to 4 days, I have nearly reached the recommended 1" height, I reckon ill be there in a couple more cuts.

I also bought a Bosch lawnmower on Amazon in August 2010. Today the mower just stopped working and I think the motor may have failed. I wonder if anyone on the forum thinks that this is a reasonable time period for a mower to last. For the record I have used the mower approx 30 times during the last two years, and it cost me £150. I have not been able to make any progress on the Bosch website, or on the Amazon site.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated. :(

That's an interesting question, what is the average life of a lawn mower and is there a difference in life span between rotary, hover, cylinder either electric or petrol mowers.

Also when people say they have a small, average or large garden what do they mean as in size wise in meters or feet if you prefer?

Mowers should last a good 10 years or so but I fear I lot of people miss use there mowers by putting them under strain eg not cutting every 7-10 days waiting until the grass is long then cutting it far too short all putting to much strain on the motor, not cleaning out the air vents etc etc etc , You often find the old man who cuts his grass every few days and always takes care of his mower has had it for years.

I admit I wait to cut mine until it's around 10cm long. However I will be doing it a lot more now as I need to cut it short, then spread some seed.

But I agree, what is your mowing frequency? I would have thought it would last more than three years. At least I hope mine lasts longer! But then I tend to take care of things a lot more these days, like cleaning out (with a damp cloth) the vacuum cleaner every 2nd use.

If you like stripes then get a rotary with a rear roller (2 front wheels, roller at the back).

Petrols are just fantastic. Very quick and will handle long grass if you leave it long between shaves. I would never buy an electric again as I found they did not last long, it was a pain handling the cord and not so great with long grass.

A small Hayter or Honda may seem an bigger outlay but if serviced will out live you.

I have to say that I did buy a Hayter about 15 years ago, the quality was poor to be honest, not even on a par with the Mountfield I had after.
It simply rotted away inspite of dry storage, I think the quality isn't exactly what it used to be.
Anything with a Briggs and Stratton engine will be fine engine wise, Honda too, but Honda have a reputation of being expensive re service and spares

For me 7 years is about the life of any run of the mill petrol mower, and it usually is the underside guides and the wheels that give up 1st.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
