vet costs

Options
Needed a vet in the night to tend to dying cat.

I would have to drive to his surgery, pay £180 as a call out charge, then pay for cats euthanasia on top of that, I had to tell him to FO!
this is a so called caring profession not a money pit!

The cat died of its own accord this AM, he was twenty years old.

    Insurance?

I do hope your cat did not suffer in his final hours. I would pay anything to make sure mine was comfortable.

You fail to realise that vets are not the NHS. If you needed a private doctor out of hours you would pay similar rates.

poor little cat. Atleast he/she had a long life. Yes the vets are expensive these days, and the cost of insurance for elderly animals increases each year...makes you think twice about becoming a pet owner.

£1/month saved for the cat by a caring owner and the eventuality would have been covered.

The point is the huge cost of a call out, not doing the deed.
We can afford both, but we cant encourage this type of RANSOM they do it because it is a very vunerable time.

The cat didn't suffer and chose his own time to move on, great cat great friend and a great carer in our hard times past.
    RIP.

They're businessmen/women. How much would a plumber or electrician charge for an emergency callout?

I don't believe in paying any call out fee's, I have never charged a fee in all my working life as a builder.
Just a new scam someone dreamed up, like paying a booking fee when buying/ booking tickets.

So if you say charged £20 hr, are you saying if someone called you out of bed at 3am for an emergency that took you <hr to fix, you would only charge £20?

What, because you didn't hear what you wanted to hear? The fact that you thought it necessary to contact a vet says to me that the animal was suffering yet you begrudged paying out for your dying pet? Vets are a business. Everyone knows how expensive they are, that is why you get insurance.

But hey, I am sure your cat gained comfort in it's final hours by you telling the vet to eff off!
