Weekend break, nearish to London, very different requirements...

Options
We're considering trying to book a (long?) weekend with family before the school holidays, but I can't see it happening as there's so much 'needed':
1) 3 couples and 1 toddler so 4 rooms
2) Brother and sister in law need a little 'space' seperate apartment/caravan perhaps...
3) They also want to be able to get there fairly quickly on the train from London
4) The rest of us can travel by car and come from Hampshire and Warwickshire.
5) Parents in law have 'high standards' when I comes to quality of accommodation (but not necessarily budget...)

Anyone suggest any areas which might work? I'd love to sort something but no idea where to start...

You're going to get the toddler a room of their own?

My in laws wouldn't be up for camping, and I'm fairly pregnant and seem to be permanently poorly at the mo so probably won't be able to on our own either this year.

If at all possible I don't want to share with my 2y old. Last weekend I was away and woken up many times by exclamations like 'stinky socks' and 'no me do it. No me do it'

It's really location we're trying to come up with for a start.

I can't imagine putting a 2yr old on their own in a strange (to them) room either, surely the child would be more disruptive on their own than in the parents room.
Can't you rent a house that will house all of you together?

It's a bit difficult to give you suggestions without a budget.

If you're just looking at destination ideas that are a short train ride from London then:

I had a nice weekend staying in St Margaret's at Cliffe. Ate at a really nice pub by the sea with the waves crashing nearby with a seafood restaurant, took a walk along the white cliffs of Dover, spent a day at Dover Castle (really good) and popped to a couple of seaside towns like Deal.

Canterbury has the cathedral, shops, history and is near some seaside towns.

Cambridge is lovely, although I don't think it's a cheap place for accommodation.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

My daughter has stayed in a room by herself on holiday twice and was perfectly happy and slept great. On one occasion it was a single room, another (a sun holiday) we had a spare twin room for her. I'm not sure why this is relevant though!

Thanks for the location suggestions, ill take a look at those places. I'm not really sure of budget yet as too many people involved!

Can I just ask, with the two year old do you ask for interconnecting rooms or in theory could she be over the other side of the hotel? Not having a pop, just asking a question? have a look at some Novotel hotels, seems to be some good deals available sometimes and the one we have booked by heathrow has a pool. To sure of extra space for other people but may be able to get a camp site nearby.

It wasn't a hotel! Just cottages / caravans! I think I realise why people thought it was odd now, was getting a but fed up of being asked about it but I wouldn't in a hotel so understand the 'concern': we just avoid that kind of holiday.

I was worried about the likely bill for the mini-bar
