My dad will argue with them too. He also found a thing on google you can print out which is 10 questions to ask them about bible stuff which makes no sense/they can't answer.
I just ignore them. My friends 90 odd year old Nan used to open the door say 'eff off' and shut it! Much to our amusement as kids as she was normally so placid.0 -

Does being a "born again" mean youve done something in the past.
A bit like confession you do what you like go in and fess up to the priest and the slates wiped clean over a few hail marys :j
If you google 'born again' you will find what Christians take it to mean. I won't explain it as I think it may come across as preaching to you/everyone else, which I am not about to do. I don't confess to a priest, nor have I ever said a hail mary, just for the record though.
I was simply giving my slant on how I answer the door to 'religious' groups.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I wouldn't call them nutters, but I don't understand why they wish to discuss their beliefs with strangers on the doorstep.
I also don't like it when they have children with them, and make the kids do the talking. It's fair enough if adults like to do this sort of thing, but it's unfair on the kids.
But whether it's adults or kids doing the talking, I don't engage with them. I politely say no thank you and shut the door.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I live in a very rural location, but have both C of E and Methodist churches nearby.... I admire the naive determination of, say, JH visitors who imagine my spiritual needs aren't being taken care of!
They tend to stand out like a sore thumb in the locality, as no-one walks along our rural roads which have no pavements (unless hearty types) especially wearing suits and ties. They probably get flagged up to our local Bobby who always gets told about strangers who don't fit in.... (Normally the three rough blokes in the front of an old reg tatty white van having a good look round - who don't worry quite so much about our spiritual needs ;-))
so I thank them for their concern for my spiritual welfare, but that I am very happy with my local church! That usually finishes the conversation quickly....0 -
"Individuals who profess to be born again often state that they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."
Aah silly me Orkneystar took your advice googled it and got the above, makes more sense now

I sense some sarcasm. There is a lot out there explaining what it means. It is up to you whether you can be bothered to look I suppose.

Orkneystar that was actually from google copy and pasted in, i was not being sarcastic but thanks for being so christian about it, keep up this attitude and im pretty sure they wont return to your door, job done!0

Smile, say no thanks and close the door. If the "no thanks" doesn't work I simply tell them I'm very happy with my chosen religion, I don't actively practice it but hey, they don't know that0

I realise you found it from google, and copied exact words.
The reason I thought you were being sarcastic was the large blue font with my name on it, apologies if you were being genuine. Christians are not perfect, we make mistakes like everyone else.
Anyway, this is detracting from the original discussion.
As for callers at my door, I am polite with them, but firm in what I already believe, which I think is what a lot of others on here have also suggested they do (albeit with different beliefs).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

We had some around the other week - Hubby answered the door and following on from telling them he wasn't interested....15 minutes later he's still there!
The two guys that came to our door (the rest were spread out knocking on other doors in the close) were friendly, polite and had a silver tongue as they preached and asked questions. I was in the other room laughing my socks off.
The mormans haven't made it around to us yet although I see them riding around - why is it though that some of those boys are really cute.......such a pity!0
