    Hi

Yes the property is a 1930's maisonette that is detached. We share the same foul pipe as their toilet is directly above ours and there is only 1 in both properties.

The reason why I am spooked is that we had people round to do a survey and there was no inspection cover for them to access.

Also the reason why I think a branch needs to be fitted is that although the toilet feeds into the soil stack we haven't got a sink in the room and we want to fit one.

    Thanks again

I'd look in the area where you think your drain joins the sewer if it goes directly in but you can tell; a lot from looking into your neighbours chambers whilst someone flushes your loo as I suggested earlier.

Ahh Ok might have missed that. Thought you were adding a loo downstairs needing a 4" branch. There might be better and easier ways doing the waste for your basin rather than trying to put it into the vertical soil pipe. But of course difficult to advise as can't see from here.

    Cheers

I did look at next doors inspection point whilst the water was running from the kitchen sink (and couldn't see anything coming through) - also I don't think there will be any point looking at the other properties inspection point as it is located higher up than ours

Yeah I suppose we could run a pipe into the drain for the kitchen but it's quite cluttered.

I did look at the soil pipe and where we would potentially put a branch in would be below the bracket so that would support the weight of the pipe above.

I stand accountable for what carp goes down my drain, ;);), a much better option than have half an estates sheite running under my property don't you think??
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

There is every point. The top of the chamber might be at a higher level but as drains run downhill by design I'll bet the bottom is a lot lower. I mentioned my own arrangements earlier as an example. From the point that the neighbours drain joins mine the shared drain runs under the driveway where there is a further chamber on the boundary with the highway to provide access to the interceptor trap where our combined drain joins the main sewer. The top of the drive is some 3 or 4 feet higher than the bottom. The chamber at the top is some 4 or 5 feet feet deeper than the one upstream as a result. Try it.

Getting perilously close to a "far too much information" situation old chap. :D

Just to let you know I looked at the plans on our lease and the drainage is marked at there seem to be inspection covers in both properties but as ours are in the middle there doesn't seem to be a hatch

Also - with reference the point upstream it was the highest point so we'd need to look at the lower point to see our flow

Thanks for your help though
