Problem with Paypal refund

I've had to refund a payment that I have received through Paypal, before I sent the item out. It is shown as completed in my account, and Paypal have confirmed on the phone that it has been sent to the buyer's account. This was over a week ago.
The buyer is maintaining that they have not received the refund.
Is there any way in which they might be right?
I didn't realise, but he told me that he is a hard working man, so he needs this cleared up ASAP.
Any thoughts?
(There's no way that I am sending the item until I receive correct payment, so don't worry about that.)

When I refunded credit card payments, I found that they were not refunded instantly - took at least a few days.
Do a screenshot of your account showing the refund - that may reassure buyer. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

It would if they were a reasonable person, but I`m rapidly coming to the conclusion that they`re not.
They say that the payment came from their bank account. I think that it`s possible that they`re expecting the refund to go into their bank account, but I`m not sure that it would. I have said this to them, but they avoided responding to this and said that they don`t want to play games.
I may be being overly cynical, but the language and style of writing that they are using, coupled with what seems to me to be an unlikely situation, leads me to think that they may be a scammer. They haven`t asked me for anything unusual yet, but I have the feeling that it`s just around the corner.0 -
I as a buyer recieved a refund the other day and PayPal still have a hold on the funds for 7-10 days. This is probably why your buyer has not recieved it yet.0

and I also paid from my bank account.0

Temporary Hold Information: This temporary hold was placed because your Direct Debit or Bank Funding payment was denied, cancelled, or refunded. The funds from this payment cannot be released until they have arrived from your bank account, which usually takes 7-9 working days.
This hold has been on since 12th May.0 -

Thanks for the replies. To those of you that have a refund pending, does it show on your Paypal account as pending? I'm trying to decide whether this buyer is really in the 'terrible stressful' situation that they claim to be.
If it is the case that for some reason Paypal don't release the refund for 7 - 14 days, shouldn't the assistant that I explained the situation to on the phone have told me about this? Or am I wrong to think that they are there to help me.....0 -
Didn't you get an email from Paypal confirming the refund? I normally get one when I refund people and I forward it to them as proof I've done it.0
