    I have never been given a gas safety certificate. I requested a gas safety report last week, so not sure what else I can do. Thanks for all the advice and links.

    So what was their response to your request? Report it to the HSE as already advised. It's a criminal offence.

    the only thing they will check on the meter is that the control handle at the side that allows you to turn the gas off in an emergency is present and working, they will check all appliances are working correctly to ( the appliances are those that are property of the landlord i.e boilers built in cookers)

    Switch2 told me to contact the H.A directly because their contract is solely with the H.A and not with the tenants. The H.A have so far not acknowledged my email. I am going to report it though. Thanks for all your help.

    And not long ago I received this email from Switch2 when I emailed them again and stated due to no one providing me with a certificate, I had no choice but to report it. From what is described, I do not need a gas safety certificate. This is what the email said;

    Good Afternoon,

    We have engineers attending ???? Street on Friday 31st May to carry out Planned Maintenance Checks on the heating and hot water system. There is no gas supply for your system as it is run using water on a communal system.
    Once we have completed the work we can then forward our engineers visit report as confirmation of the checks being completed, however, we would forward this to Housing for Women to forward to yourself unless they instruct us to send you a copy directly.

    Hi Diamond78, just a quick question have you got either a gas boiler &/or gas fire in the flat?

    If its communal you should only have radiators and a HWC not a heating device which uses gas?

    also is it a built in cooker, have you got your own gas meter as the control handle would be checked,

    Hiya, thanks for your replies. We have no gas fires or built in cookers. We have a gas meter and a small box which we use like an oyster card to top up our gas. I do know there is also a communal boiler which gets cleaned often but we get very bad sewage smell.

    Ahhhh I don't think that's actually a gas meter, and the reason for no gas safety check is because you don't actually have any gas appliances.

    If you had a gas fire/boiler or other gas device then you need a check but no appliances means no need for a gas check.

    right no gas appliances in the flat it self, how ever if you are getting sewage type smell in the area of the boiler I would suggest you get the gas emergency service out to check no leak 0800 111 999 tell them communal boiler and how many flats it serves as they will need to know this and they will ensure you and your neighbors are safe
