If it is Eire (Southern Ireland) you will not be able to get insurance for more than 34 pounds whatever method you use. So unless it is likely to go fairly cheaply I would not send it outside Britain.
From the Royal Mail site
How much compensation will I get if my item is lost or damaged?
If your item is lost or damaged in transit, we will pay compensation of up to £34 per item upon production of a copy of the certificate of posting and proof of item value. Extra compensation of up to £250 or up to £500 (depending on the country) is available for an extra charge of £2.00 per item (in addition to the £3.50 International Signed For™ fee). Please note however that the maximum compensation for cash and money sent via International Signed For™ is £100 when extra compensation has been purchased. Also cash and money cannot be sent at all to a number of countries, so you should check with Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457 740 740 before sending cash and money, etc to check that it is possible to do so. In addition, extra compensation is not available for items containing mobile phones (so that the maximum compensation for the loss or damage to a mobile phone is £34 per package sent.
For N Ireland, special Delivery will cover you for more so there is no problem.0 -
I found when I blocked bidders from outside of UK that this included NI. Got an irate email asking why I kept blocking them. I decided that ebay were making some sort of political statement0

DO NOT SEND IT!!!!
Buyers ouside of the UK/US cannot get there paypal accounts verified so you will have no seller protection.
Also royal mail do not cover mobile phones sent abroad for anything over £34 via any service.

EDIT: Just noticed martin had already mentioned this.
Unless of course it's a cheap mobile.
If not you could take a bank transfer and find a courier that do insure mobiles.
Anyone know one?
But I'd personally second chance your second highest bidder and file an NPB against your buyer.0 -
AFAIK OP hasn't mentioned if the buyer is in Northern Ireland (UK) yet.My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I made the mistake of sending something to Southern Ireland once and it ended up costing me more than the item had sold for!

Does anyone still think that NI is abroad these days (apart from 43.76% of the people who live there)?
Hopefully it will be one day, but that's another story....;)0
